My wife and I were raised in Conway, Arkansas, where our families and pretty much everyone we knew grew their own gardens, canned and froze produce, and fished and hunted. I earned a degree in Landscape Architecture from LSU in Baton Rouge. We moved to Austin, Texas, where I went to work in the geographic information systems (GIS) industry. My wife earned a Masters degree in Social Work from UT-Austin and is a self-employed mental health therapist (LCSW).
I'm still fully employed in the GIS industry while my wife continues to work part-time. We are fortunate to both work remotely and we've spent the last two years traveling and house/pet sitting. We've learned a lot about other areas of the country, meeting great people and their wonderful animals and trying to figure out where we might want to settle down. We have recently relocated back to Central Arkansas to help care for her aging father. We have one child who graduates in two months with a degree in Aerospace Engineering from Embry-Riddle in Prescott, Arizona.
We have a vision of creating a space in which we can nurture ourselves, the earth, and young people through connection to the land and systems of nature, food production, art, music, and mental health support. Permaculture seems like a great place to start.
