Anyone put branches in small wildlife ponds?

Hello,

Hope you’re all having fun with your various projects. This morning I put another bucket type pond in yard. Normally I pile rocks on the side but this time I’m using a plastic whiskey barrel liner. Anyway my question is, do any of you put branches in your pond so that little critters won’t drown? If so, I’m no wondering how it works and if fresh cut branches can be used. My other ponds have mosquito fish for mosquito control .. wish there was another way to assure that I wouldn’t be raising mosquitoes, have tried the only carnivorous plant that would grow in this setting and that was a bust. Anyway, I want the branch to be fish safe as my daughter and I want to go “ rescue” some rosy red minnows from being fed to someone’s pet.

Thanks!

And have an awesome:)
