Intro/Sit Spot

I am very new to learning permaculture. The spot I chose as my "sit spot" is actually one that I've been quietly observing for a few years now, so in a way it kind of chose me first!

I've been watching our front garden through the changing seasons for about 3 years, and I've enjoyed seeing how things shift through the cycles. It's in front of a big window, which makes it especially accessible and allows me to sit and observe it in all kinds of weather, and it has been the subject of several art reflections we've done here. We didn't plant this garden, and really haven't done much to change it aside from adding a few tulips in a bare spot. Every year, I feel so much gratitude that whoever did plant it did so very intentionally, so that in every season there is something blooming and another gently fading. Even in the winter, the dead stems and dried flower structures left behind are visually interesting and provide cover for little birds, rabbit nests, the occasional snake and small lizards, and an abundance of spiders, bugs, and insects. We've tried to honor the intention of the people who planted this garden by not disturbing the habitats it has fostered, even if I don't quite understand how the balance of it all works... yet!
