Vermicomposting Setup

Hi everyone, I was lucky enough to receive a used worm farm as a gift and have now finally started my first vermicomposting project for kitchen waste.

The worms moved in 4 days ago. I used coconut fibers and compost with cardboard as a substrate. In the first few days, the biggest challenge seemed to be keeping the light on at night to prevent the worms from leaving. As soon as one of my flatmates forgot and wanted to save energy, the little worms started running around in the kitchen. Now they seem to have settled in.

It also seemed important to water to keep the soil moist. I was advised to feed the worms slowly until they had multiplied well and possibly also to give them mineral food. I am still a bit unsure how much and what kind of food they need. Does anyone have any experience of this that they would like to share?

In the long term, I hope that the worms will multiply so that some can be relocated to the garden compost and I would also like to try to compost the horse manure with the worms more quickly.

Is anyone using worms to compost horse manure? I would be very curious to exchange about that subject.
